Depth Over Duration.

Intensive coaching for individuals and couples who've done the work and are ready to go deeper than weekly sessions can take them.

You're here because...

  • You've done the reading, the workshops, and probably years of therapy. You can name your patterns, and yet somehow you're still stuck in them.

  • Life looks good on paper. Something inside feels unsettled and unfulfilled.

  • You leave a good session, and by mid-week, you've lost the thread and the momentum for change.

  • You've outgrown the fifty-minute therapy session, but don’t know what other options there are.

  • You're ready to stop talking about what’s not working and finally experience something different.

  • You're tired of circling what you already know, and you're ready to be honest with yourself about what it will take to go deeper.

My work takes three forms. All of them are built for depth and personalization.

Let’s find your starting point.

How I work

This isn't weekly therapy.

What intensive coaching with me offers.

The same clinical knowledge that shapes good therapy, in a container built for a different kind of depth. You're not coming here to build foundational skills or get a quick fix for the latest crisis. You're coming because you already have the skills, the awareness, and the language. What's actually going to move things is a different kind of insight that takes time to reach. Concentrated time. Hours and days instead of minutes and weeks.

How is it different from therapy?

Therapy is designed to build capacity in small, steady doses, for as long as you need it. That model is life-changing for people at the right moment. What I offer is for a different moment: when you've already gained the insight and support therapy offers, and the structure itself has become the ceiling. You come back each week to rebuild what you lost in between. Real shift stays just out of reach. An intensive removes the interruption and guides you toward something new.

“Our weekend with Esther planted the seeds for a lot of growth. As a couple and as individuals, I can trace so many of our positive changes back to that weekend 2 years later.”

Why This Works

How the intensive approach moves you forward.

Transformation rarely happens in fifty minutes. It happens incrementally in the days and weeks between sessions. It requires you to make time in daily life to truly experience what came up in therapy.

But in an intensive, you don’t go home hoping to carve out space for the process to work.

We sit together in the ah-ha moments and painful revelations. You finally have the space to say what you've been circling for years… and process the feelings that come with it in real time with real support. An intensive doesn't rush to wrap things up in a neat bow before you walk out the door. We have the time to stay with what's hard long enough for it to actually shift.

Insight is only as good as our ability to turn it into a changed perspective and meaningful action. This approach is designed to make that possible.

Hi.

I’m Esther Boykin.

Esther Boykin, LMFT — individual intensive coaching and personal transformation, Washington DC

I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist with 23 years of clinical experience, a TEDx speaker, author, and cultural strategist. I spent the last sixteen years running a large psychotherapy practice. I closed it to build this.

After two decades of working with clients from all walks of life, I learned that my superpower as a therapist is in holding space for deep, transformative change. This is why I pivoted to an intensive-only model. I am here to offer my most impactful, signature approach.

I'm also an overachieving, Black, first-generation Jamaican-American woman who knows what it means to hustle for worth, to code-switch, to carry success while privately wondering why it never feels like enough. That's the fluency I bring to the room alongside the clinical training.

I'm not a fixer. I’m not an all-knowing guru. I'm a doula for personal growth. I create the container and offer the reflection. You do the work and uncover your deepest self.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. This is coaching, not therapy. It's shaped by 23 years of clinical training, but the nontraditional model of intensives works best in a coaching format. We work on depth, insight, and change. Not diagnosis or ongoing acute clinical care. If you're in therapy now, an intensive can be a useful addition to the work. Book a consultation to discuss how the two can layer together.

  • No. Intensive coaching is self-pay. Payment plans are available for every offer, and you save 10% when you pay in full. If you're looking for insurance-covered therapy, reach out. I'm happy to point you toward clinicians who do that work beautifully.

  • No. I closed my sixteen-year group therapy practice to focus on this work. If weekly therapy is what you need, I have a carefully curated list of clinicians that I am happy to share with you.

  • Depends on the service. Devoted Partnership weekends are in-person only; I travel to couples outside the DC metro area for a flat travel fee. Sovereign Self half-days are in-person (strongly preferred) or virtual. Reclaiming Your Story is fully virtual.

  • Book a consultation. That's what those conversations are for. We'll talk through where you are, what you're hoping for, and what format actually fits. I'd rather spend twenty minutes with you than have you choose the wrong fit.

  • Every plan includes integration. Check-in access, virtual touchpoint sessions, and continued access to me through the season of change. The intensive is the beginning, not the whole story.
